Life Update: New Puppy On Board

December 27, 2017

Okay, it’s not my boyfriend’s nor my puppy, but my brother just picked one up and I am excited to say I am a new fur baby aunt!!

She is a six-week-old Golden Retriever and we are absolutely in love with her! She’s been so well-behaved thus far and loves to play.

Since she is at my parents’ house I get to see her almost every day as I do go over the house frequently.

She came home at six weeks (extremely young I must say) and has been a delight, even understanding where she needs to go potty the second day we got her. She’s absolutely beautiful and I can already tell she’s super smart.

As she is still a baby, she does sleep most of the day away. It makes it so hard to cuddle with her!

She also has yet to speak up to go outside to use the bathroom, so having a watch on her when she’s in the area near the door is a must.

Creating a sleep schedule to start is very important, especially since she cried almost through most of the night the first time.

We needed to buy her a crazy amount of toys, just like any baby, due to her short attention span and craving to chew on anything she could get my tiny teeth on.

Saying “potty” every time she waits at the door or is in the middle of going to the bathroom has really helped. She’s already picked up on what that word signals. It’s still a hit or miss with her, but she’s slowly picking it up.

  • An abundance of toys for her to play with
  • Leash
  • Collar
  • Collar tag
  • Blankets to keep warm
  • Small dog bed
  • Cage

They are a lot of fun! We’re out of the puppy stage with both of ours, but I remember those early days. It sounds like you’re doing everything right, and congrats on the new addition!

Oh my! So cute! When my son is a bit older we’ll get a dog for him. They’re so much work but great to have around.
